  Welcome

Welcome. My name is Matt Dalton and I want to help you feel better.

After a 10 day silent mediation in the mountains of Peru I received a massage from a Brazilian woman that had been at the retreat with me. It was one of the most profoundly moving experiences of my life and made me realize just how important touch was in a therapeutic sense, how powerful it could be as a tool of recovery, of balance and of nurturance. When I got back to New York some other events in life conspired to bring me to Portland, Oregon where lo and behold East West College awaited.

Massage is important to me because it works; because our bodies are the only tool we are really given; we use our mind to problem-solve all the time, but our bodies should not be neglected or dismissed as problem-solvers in the their own right. Especially when it comes to pain.  My aim is to help facilitate that problem-solving; especially within the context of pain management.  An integrated person is one that is as vital physically as mentally. When we connect nervous systems via touch we are connecting our entire organism to that of another, I believe it is this connection that informs the intent, and guides the therapeutic process in ways we are just beginning to understand critically. For me massage is a foundation for a future that includes an academically thorough exploration of Human Physiology through medicine and I hope to finish my pre-med by the  end of 2014 in order to apply for my Masters Of Science in Oreintal Medicine.  In addition I continue developing my abilities through movement related therapies such as yoga  and the Alexander technique. As far as modalities; I am drawn to many but Deep Tissue, Myofascial Release and Structural Integration are at the top
